Using postcards, I wanted to give these women a new identity. Around forty postcards were used. From these, henna silkscreens were printed on cotton paper, enlarged to 1:1 scale, and placed in light boxes like the X-rays. In daylight, they are barely visible; a process of contamination through the cotton paper allows us to make out the imprint of the face. They will only fully appear to the eye once revealed by artificial light, the light that underlies all still and moving images, joining and subverting the photochemical process of photographic revelation. The appearance and disappearance of the manipulated photos seek to reposition these women as subjects.
