My residency in Dakar was extremely enriching, both in terms of research and encounters. I was lucky enough to spend several months in the Soumbédioune district of Gueule Tapée, which put me right in the heart of the city.

In the National and IFAN archives, I was able to discover historical documents that plunged me into certain realities of the time. They show the extent to which the arrival of the colonial powers destructured African trade, and trans-Saharan trade in particular, by adapting it to the demands of Western economies. The issue of slavery is just as important and historic in Senegal. Having begun my work in Morocco, I naturally envisaged this country as an extension of my research.
