While visiting the Medieval Morocco exhibition at the Louvre, I came across some astonishing objects. Among them, a small set of pieces carved from rock salt: a bowl, a lidded chest and some plates. These knick-knacks were made from fragments of broken slabs extracted from the ancient Teghazza salt flats, discovered by Théodore Monod during one of his expeditions. These astonishing objects inspired me to pursue my research. My participation in the Qafila Rabiaa seemed an obvious choice. Carlos Perez Marine was proposing to travel the ancient Saharan caravan routes used by the African slave trade, both East-West and North-South. The captives were transported along these routes.
